In order to expand the Museum’s present site, two adjoining buildings located at nos. 19 and 21 of the calle Marqués de Cubas were acquired. Following complete remodelling, they will now house a large selection of works from the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection, as well as a new temporary exhibitions space.

Sixteen new galleries are arranged as a logical continuation of the pre-existing building. These will enable the Museum to show up to 200 works of the more than 300 on deposit, constituting the fixed part of the Collection which may eventually come to form part of the Museum’s collection.

The fact that it complements and continues the historic collection, along with an architectural concept based on the perception of the Museum as a single entity, allow for the two to be perfectly integrated, with the new collection displayed in a chronological arrangement comparable to that used for the historic collection.
